"An extremely “light” building with a façade of glass rhythmically surrounded by staves in Finnish wood.
The wooden staves “move” slightly in order to form a surface that appears rippled and soft in the light.
The movement of the wood recalls common themes but also evokes the Finnish modernist architecture of Aalto.
The project thus provides these echoes, and it is thanks to these allusions that it is deeply integrated into the city avoiding too direct an encounter with the shapes of the more immediate context. “I like – Bellini says – to think that in Helsinki they might have mistaken it for an old building thus feeling it to be very near to their reality”.
A simple idea, like in all of Bellini’s work of this period, not rhetorical but rich in qualities; in contrast to the simplicity of the exterior is the richness of the interior space dominated by space and again by wood.
